Wenlock and Essex

The Brief

Wenlock & Essex is a bar located in Angel, Northeast London. The venue is spread across two areas; a bar and a music venue. Halo was enlisted to transform the atmosphere of the venue through lighting and special effects to bring the bar to the next level and make a real impact on customers.

The Installation

The acoustics in the music area needed improvement due to the regular gigs Wenlock put on so Halo installed acoustic curtains to make the acoustics in the room much more effective. In terms of lighting, Halo installed scans barrels and core pars in the bar area as well as half a mirror ball to create a starry-sky effect. We also installed a hazer to add a mystical element to the bar when it changed to a night-time venue. We also installed and programmed an LED dance floor, changing colour and pattern throughout the night, all of which was be controlled through showcad which was also programmed to control the other LED lights throughout the venue.

Be at One Greek Street

The Brief

Be At One Greek Street wanted to extend their dancefloor area whilst at the same time retaining their current control system. Due to the low ceiling height, moving heads or any conventional lighting were not an option, so instead Be At One decided in favour of a pixel mappable grid.

The Installation

We created a custom designed grid using RGB LED pixel tape and LED profile which we then fitted onto the ceiling. The grid was all built and manufactured in house, selecting the most suitable products for the design. The installation itself took place over 4 days, with a crew of 4 experienced technicians.

The Challenges

The primary challenge was the uneven ceiling. We had to ensure the installation was fully levelled and geometrically aligned. Other challenges were the very tight time constraints for the installation and ensuring no cables were visible.

Lighthouse

The Brief

The SGB Group wanted the Lighthouse to be different to all their other venues, with a far more retro feel. As such they didn’t want any intelligent features, purely generic.

What we did

To fit both the brief and the small and unique venue, Par 30s were mounted onto Ali plate, using custom extrusion, in clusters of two and installed around the roof of the venue. These were then wired to be individually programmable using a ShowCad system. We also installed a sound system in the venue to fit both live music events and ambient music during the day to day running. The requirement was to install a system that would not only meet their needs but also not disturb the neighbors. This was especially complicated as the venue had single glazing windows.

The Challenges

The main challenge was the vast amount of cabling used, as none of the lights installed had DMX and had to go through dimmers.

Magic Rounbdabout

The Brief

Located in the middle of Old Street roundabout and accessed by a secret staircase in the tube stations, this unique and immersive venue asked us to turn their space into an ‘Urban Jungle’.

The Installation

From previous seasons, the venue had lots of UV paint decorations which we incorporated into the design. To reinforce the jungle theme, we used some Matin Rush DC1 Aquas lighting that gave the impression that the floor was being hit with light coming through a leafy canopy. For general lighting we installed some LED tape around the bar and seating areas and some festoons outside.

The Challenges

Some of the challenges came from the venue being completely outdoor, meaning that at the design stage we had to restrict the range of equipment and cables to those being 100% waterproof. Also, the venue didn’t want to use any truss, so all equipment had to be rigged from either the brick walls or stud work.

ON Bar – Manchester

The Brief

Situated at the quieter end of Canal Street, in the Gay Village, On Bar wanted a low cost – high effect outdoor lighting solution that would make their venue more visible to customers.

The Installation

We hanged together and attached some 8 m long sections of coloured fairy lights to depict the Proud flag. Some more fairy lights were also placed on the trees and RGB Floods were placed on the edge of the roof to further lighten the balcony and building.

The Challenges

The main challenge came from hanging the lights themselves as they were very heavy indeed and being placed at height.
